I`m needing to buy a new computer, and dont know that much about them. Can someone tell me a good brand and how much memory I will need to be able to have enough memory to add Windows Vista in a year or 2. I will be installing photoshop on the new computer and hear it takes up a lot of memory.
I need to know what to ask for when I go out to purchase another one.
Thanks

Is Window Vista out on market yet. Is it a good time to get it or should I wait a few years?

Hi Sandra,
U'r asking for a computer which can run Windows Vista and Photo shop with out any delay in starting.
There are many options u can go
1.Vista needs a sure graphics card with a RAM of 512 necessarily with hard disk space of 5 GB for storage of O.S
2.If u want to see more movies and listen many songs go for a hard drive of 120 GB or 160GB the hard drives.
3.Now for graphics card u can go for an internal or built in graphics card .
4.Intel has released a model called Intel Ati 101g board its very good for graphics.
5.If not go for 945 board with dual core processor or Single core with 915 board which also benifits the graphics card option.
If not you can go for the AMD& ASUS combination.
6.U can even use internal graphics card comes with in range
60$ to 10000$.
7.Best config .
i>P4 3.0HT with ATI board
ii>512 MB ram and 160 gb sata seagate.
iii >TFT 17'' SONY monitor.
ok bye Sandra
any queries mail me.

If you can afford to do it, wait until february. January 30th is when Vista is available, both in the store and pre-installed on computers. If you know a lot about computers, you could just buy it now and upgrade later, but you said yourself you don't know too much. I personally like Dell's stuff, HP has improved greatly over the last few years. If you're thinking laptop, Lenovo's Thinkpad (not IBM anymore) is very good. Acer makes some good laptops. Overall if I were in your shoes and looking for a desktop I'd go with Dell. Laptop, probably an Acer, HP, or Lenovo. Enjoy the new computer!

You need to have at least 1GB of RAM...2GB would be better.
I recommend a at least a 64bit processor as Vista will be able to actually USE it. Dual core would be best. Some people like Intel...but i like Athlon MUCH better. Vista will be released in 32 and 64 bit...so 64bit is not necessary.
My current PC will handle the 32 bit version the specs on it are...
AMD Athlon 2600+ Barton Core
1GB PC2700 Ram
1 DVD-RW, 1 CD-RW
1 - 80gb HDD, 1- 40gb HDD
Creative Audigy 2 7.1
ATI Radeon 9550 Pro 256MB
As far as a good Manufacturer...I can't tell you...cause i don't buy premade computers...I get a Lot of Dells, Gateway, HP/Compaq for repair...so i won't recommend them.

no to emachines. you need at a minimum, 2 GB of memory for vista. ask about a computer that is good for pictures, videos. By the way, most new computers that you buy now have a free upgrade to windows vista. take it, it will save you a lot of money.I think a $10.00 charge is all you need to pay, and that is for the installation CD itself.

first off, check this out:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/partners/microsoft/vista.asp it explains what you need for Vista...do not listen to the morons on here that may sugest you need 2 gigs of ram to get vista...that is a load of crap. I have Vista beta running on this computer and it runs fine on 1 gig (512mb too)
secondly, check this out :http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1416&Nav=|c:1307|&Sort=0&Recs=10 this is a list of 5 computers that will get the job done for you.
Dont worry about brand names, they are all the same on the inside, you just pay more for a name. My computer is home made from parts I got off of tigerdirect and it has the same warranty that any of the brand name computers have...go figure.
