As far as dental lawsuits, you would have to call the Dental Board Association. These exist in every city. They have a list of every dentist and all his information. But unless he has had prior complaints and has been disciplined, they will not be able to tell you anything else. If there has never been a disciplinary action taken against him, they will tell you he has a clean record. However, do not allow that to cloud your judgement, since not every unhappy patient files a complaint. The most people do is ask for their records and transfer dentists. Unfortunately some of the ones who have deliberately damaged peoples teeth, just to do bigger procedures than necessary, have no record against them. So it's up to us to make sure that these dentist be reported. Also if you live in a small community where one dentist is popular, word gets around. All you have to do is ask neighbours or friends. If you hear something you do not like from people in your area, believe them. Only way to know who these dentists are is by asking around and doing some investigating yourself.

Unfortuanetly, not everyone questions a dentist nor his procedures.

The dental board might have some information, but it will likely be very limited. Lawsuits are public record, so check the website of the court that is closes to the dentist's business address to see if you can research the case index online. Some courts allow this and some courts also allow you to review records online as well. If not, you may need to visit the court to review the files for yourself.

Check with the state agency that licenses dentists to see if they have had complaints. (You can probably find out how to do that by going online.) If the dentist has been in the area for a long time, you can go to the local courthouse and look thru the index of cases for his name; and if it shows up, ask the clerk to pull the file(s) so you can read them.

Your state dental board. Even so, don't take your child at too young of an age, or allow them to start drilling and traumatizing him.

I don't like most dentists and I don't trust them. There are many who are brutal and are into it for the money.
