I live in a mostly Muslim country and find most of the people here are kind, gentle, understanding, open and friendly. So why must people talk with such ignorance about people they don't even know. They read the hype in the papers and watch the crap on the news about Muslims but only hear the bad bits.
Do you know that Muslims are the most charitible people and care for the sick, poor and elderly more than most nations.
I have known Muslims to go to the local hospital and give to those worse of than them even when their own wage is meager.
Get of the band wagon and meet the people you so want to discredit and maybe you will be a better person for it.
Oh and I am a athiest before you go of on one.
Life is to sort to hate.
Love a little.
Thanks.

Because some paint everyone else with the same brush and don't want to get to know the person/people.
It was like the Irish years ago, I am Irish, my dad was an English man and when he first came over here in 1967, all he knew of the Irish then was they were a bad bunch, trouble makers and the troubles in the North at the time included all of Ireland and not just the North. That was the way Irish were stereotyped at the time. When he came over here and saw for himself that the Irish are warm and friendly, Not being biased!!, his thought of the Irish people was totally different. He lived here for over 20 years and regarded Ireland as home.
People don't tend to give others the benefit of the doubt or a chance any more.
I know a few Muslim people, and are lovely people to speak to. Much nicer than alot of people I know. Kind spirited people.

What you say maybe entirely true but it's your own personal experience not unfortunately a lot of other people's. What I see is that a few ( I say the very few, as this is probably the truth who are colouring everyelse's view of Muslims); Muslim's reaction it appears very defensive and reactionary. This attitude really does get people's backs up I'm afraid....By the way from a religious point of view they claim to be Peaceful people; but the Koran does say that this should come at a price, conquering the world and forcing everyone else to live under the sharia law (the only way to achieve peace !!).
I personally do not think this is a way to live, Muslims like everyone else have to learn to live in harmony with all cultures, colours, differences as that's reality.
If I have been misinformed about what the Koran says on the above point then please tell me. I'm sure this argument is going to rage for a while yet even Muslim's disagree with each other.

I live near Hackney.

I was once told that I couldn't walk down my own street by a gang of Muslims who stated that this was 'their area'.

Don't blame non-Muslims for these prejudices, blame the idiots like these who live under the protection of this country but throw it back at us.
Blame the 1 in 5 who thought Sharia Law was a good idea for the UK.
Blame the 1 in 5 who thought the tube bombers were martyrs.

It's a shame but until the silent majority start giving the nasty minority a piece of their mind they'll all be tarred with the same brush.

The image of Muslims, is exaggerated and created through the media - to make people believe that the exception makes the rule. It then has a knock on effect- where either muslims are given preferential treatment and can't do any wrong or every conceivable world problem is blamed on muslims. This is one of the problems i find with associating faith to individuals and culture and nationality, rather than judging the individual.

I agree with you. Although I live in England and I'm an American I believe that you cannot know anyone until you talk to them and hopefully become friends. I have spoken to some Muslims here and find them to be very nice but shy and not inclined to become friends. It's a shame because I have muslim beliefs myself. How can anyone become friends if they are unwilling to mix in with people living here? On the whole though, I do agree with you.

Hello,

I agree with your sentiments entirely, isnt it the trueth that "we fear that which we know the least about"

We dehumanise others?!!, isnt this what was done by the Natzi's during the war to the jews inorder to carry out genoside upon them (OK! an extreme example taken to its extreme conclusion) but its the same kind of starting point, it begins with lies & distorted thinking.

**My heart goes out to moderate muslims, they must be very fearful right now.

**if you know something, or someone directly, face to face or from meeting such people in real life. Then its 100% times harder to demonise them & believe the rubbish others project onto them. Like the press & media want us to belive.

**I'm frequently amazed just how niave people are in believing (to me) the ovbious lies & spin of the press and media. Thats why I have such a low opinion of the press & media in general because they are prepared to distort the trueth or wip things up into a frenze.

**Nobody ever reports how upset and hurt muslim people feel by the way they are portrayed in the press or media. Nobody ever shows the utter horror of how families are traumatised by deaths from suiside bombings in Iraq. Yet when one British person is killed or a soldier shot dead the press make a massive hooli hooli about it. Isnt that a double standard? A British life is better than an Iraq life?

**I'm sure moderate muslims (not matter what I think of their religon) are horrified by people who think blowing themselves up inorder to kill as many infedels is the answer to creating a just & peaceful world. I'm sure the holli Quarn doesnt say go and blow yourself up!!?

**I'm a life long atheist too but I remain horrified by what Bush & Blair have done to Iraq.

**I remain very distressed & upset & continually sickened by the horror that shea & sheites inflict upon each other for power & control over Iraq. Its muslim on muslim killing & murder where will this all end? How many more people will have to die before Iraqies start to seriously start to resolve there differences.

Or is the inevitable civil war the only way? and the eventual division of the land of Iraq into three areas, in effect three countries (inc dividing the oil wealth x3 too!).

I have actually spoken with many people who think they are muslims, and they are some of the most respectful and kind people I have ever met in my entire life.

Unfortunately I believe the true muslims are the terrorist because they are doing exactly what the koran says to do.

I love those good people who only think they are true muslims but I want to show them the error of their ways.

Because many of the people who critacise muslims are not refering to the decent ones whom you describe, they are refering to the other ones who are far from decent. I have been to many predominatly muslim countries and I can tell you that certain muslim factions enjoy, yes enjoy a perverted barbarity that in some cases is very reminiscent of that which was practised by Hitler and Stalin.

When you read news reports from the BBC, that something like 50% of the British Muslim population think the 7/7 London attacks were justified.... it makes you very wary.
