South India will be cooler during December to February
Good hotels are the Resorts along the coastline from Chennai to Pondicherry. Quieter locations are the Beach Resorts at Mahabalipuram

overall now would be a good time..the weather will be pleasant.
The monsoon season just got over (OCT-NOV) , u dont want to visit india during the monsoon, coz it starts flooding up due to lack of infrastructure.
Bangalore is a city, but has pleasant climate.
Kerala is a wonderfull place, serene and natural.
Ooty and Kodaikanal are Hilly resorts - it gets really cool there[around the 60's at this time of the year].

If you dont know their local language, then better stick to the cities or if u wish to tour the region go along with a tour guide- ask your travel agent.

This is the time to visit south India its not hot and not too cold.Quiter locations will be hill stations but definitely cold,or places which are not classified as cities. It is a bit difficult to explain.Almost all the places you can visit in South India including hill stations, beach stations, all will be crowded anytime of the year may beexcept places like coorg, mysore, thekkady in kerala,so you cannot escape crowds in south India like you can do in places of North India. You specify the area and inform through this site and I can recommend the hotels.

rosie !

santosh is right. Go toSOUTH INDIA in Dec. and JAN as these are cool months and you will be having slightly chill in evening.

SOUTH INDIA[ My Oreference ] OOTY, KERALA, GOA,

Further it depends on what type of vocation you are looking for. If I had to go far distant place- I will avoid crowd !!

If you want to avoid crowd then OOTY is a cool hill station and it is always crowded. GOA will be fine in JAN as most crowd is of X-MAS and NEW YEAR and you can find a peacefull time at KERALA HOUSEBOAT.
