If you mean without a monthly contact you can check out walmarts phones. There are a couple different ones like boost Mobil or Verizon. With boost Mobil you buy the phone and prepaid phone cards. Verizon has the same type but it actually cost .99 cents a day just to keep it activated plus prepaid card. Or just go on line and check for prepaid phones. Just be careful because some phones don't work in all areas.

Prepaid is the answer.

Be careful though. Almost every plan has some negatives. Most have minutes expire after a short time, or charge a daily fee. Bunch of crap if you ask me.

I've found 2 plans that don't do that. T-Mobile (which I use) is 10 cents a minute and lasts for 1 year, when you purchase $100 in airtime, which is 1000 minutes. There are no monthly or daily fees.

There's also 7-Eleven's SpeakOut plan which offers 20 cents a minute with minutes lasting for 1 year also. There is a monthly fee of $1 or so. The nice thing about this one is that you don't have to buy a high initial block of minutes. If you buy $10, you get 50 minutes that last a year, minus the monthly fee. This plan uses the Cingular network.

Both are nationwide plans and include free long distance. They both also roll over unused minutes for another year, if you buy additional minutes. For both you do have to buy the phones. They do not give them to you for free because you are not signing any contracts. Both offer very reasonably priced phones, under $30.

Just about any store right on down to the corner convenience store will sell you a pre-paid phone. The minutes are more expensive but you are not locked into a long term contract, credit check and all that crap. Shop carefully there are a lot of good deals and down right rips. I suggest you go to the search page of Yahoo and type in "Pre Paid Cell phone" you should be able to find the best deal that way

Lots Of Mobile Phone Companies Offer A Pre-Paid Option With The Cell Phones! where you can buy a card with minutes on it for like $10 a month instead of getting as cell bill. you can buy these cards at the cell phone dealer or in some dept stores like Wal-Mart.

Hope This Helps

Walmart, Target, Walgreen's -- anyplace like that. Cingular has some pay as you go usage phones. Make sure you do some research before you buy. Not all phones have coverage in all areas. Also some of them have fees that aren't quite clear. I picked up a pay as you go for my kids last year for emergencies. I thought I read everything -- turns out (in that lovely fine print..) there was a daily usage fee -- when one of my kids needed to use the phone - he couldn't. Turns out we had been charged a dollar a day for simply having the phone.

Please don't fall into the same trap -- do your research. I can't stress that enough.

Good luck!

Dani it depends on where you live, 7-11, Walgreen's, Radio shack, and Wally world (wal-mart) are your best bet for what is called a "pre-paid" phone, I have Metro Pcs, everyone refers to it by the "ghetto Metro" because you can talk 24/7 local and long distance for the same price "every month" the one down side to this service are the limited calling roaming areas, so if you spend a lot of time out of your calling area you better think twice

grocery stores sell Tracfones - you just buy minutes for it, no contract. I think Cricket has no contracts also, you just pre-pay for your minutes.
