How did he do it when I myself can't even forgive a simple mistake? And how does one forgive when something hurts so bad, you can't even talk about it? Me and my wife have been struggling with this issue for over 3 years and can't seem to forgive a certain family member. What do we need to do to be like Mandela?

Note to all: I'm confused by the thumbs-down on this question. This question was not posted to offend anyone. It was posted to ask advice from South Africans on how to forgive and forget in the way Mandela has done.

To Tshepo: Do you mean that I'm not special and that it's beyond my reach to be as forgiving as he was?

'What makes Mandela so special is hat he's a real human being...And the fact that he is so flesh-and -blood real makes his greatness and his sacrifice and wisdom and his courage in the face of all that has happened to him even more remarkable"

I am sorry, i was only quoting what Bill Clinton once said about the man. Please see this only as an addition to your question. I could not answer your question because i feel the same way you feel about Mandela, that's why i chose to quote someone else instead. I sorry, it came out all wrong.

Mandela is no hero, he is what the media made him out to be. Mandela is a terrorist in real life who killed innocent civilians.

The lies spread about Apartheid are making me sick and everyone is gulping it up because the "tv" said so, or the "newspaper" said so.

The Apartheid Gov didn't kill people just for the fun of it, nor did they kill thousands like you are taught. They didnt steal land and they did NOT oppress people. It was merely seperate development.

Mandela also did not stop a bloodbath in SA... it is coming within the next 11-12 weeks... He merely postponed it until they had complete control of the SA military. Whites will be slaughtered within weeks... and NO, we do NOT deserve it. I wish people would start questioning the propaganda and lies and start thinking for themselves.

to be able to forgive like he did... you need to have a enormous heart and a dream.
mandela's dream was to have everybody equal to everybody else and i suppose that after been in jail for 27 years and coming out and having everything that he wanted done...he was able to forgive

because he is a good, wise and unselfish man.
Can u imagine what a blood bath S.A. would be if Madiba were a senseless pig?
There are so many things that couls have gone wrong...our economy, pride in SA, faith, being able to welcome tourists, foreigners and refugees.

South Africa is could have been so much better if we had a selfless, honest government.
