Yahoo music I used a few months back, and they didnt charge anything.
Could even watch videos, but am not sure if there are some new limitations or time limits.

Rhapsody lets you listen to 10 or twenty free a month, but when you sign up for like 9 bucks, you can listen to unlimited amount of music which is pretty cool if youre a music freak.

Thats all I have

P.S.
Watch out for limewire and the like. If you use common sense you should be okay, if not you could acquire some pretty nice little viruses there.

Besides the links below, do you have a favorite radio station that you like? It is very likely that you can listen on line. I live in the midwest and I listen to a Seattle PBS radio station a lot.
Just use Yahoo search for the radio station call letters.

Examples:
Search for KING-FM gives me a link to www.king.org

Search for moody broadcasting network gives a link to http://www.mbn.org/GenMoody/default.asp?SectionID=5F0CCAFE71D14536846F0430BDF5F84D

In no particular order:

Accuradio - http://www.accuradio.com/
Totally free and a wide variety of possibilities

Live 365 - http://www.live365.com/index.live
Free or subscription based and a wide variety of possibilities. If you give them your email address, then you can save the radio stations (not the music itself) on their system, so you can find that station again. They call it "Presets:
I get hardly any email from them, so I feel safe doing so.

AOL RADIO: http://music.aol.com/radioguide/bb?sem=1&ncid=AOLRAD00170000000009
This has some of the XM radio stations.
You do NOT have to be an AOL member to listen, but I believe you get more choices if you are an AOL member and "sign in"

Yahoo music - Radio stations - http://music.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/default.asp
again free and subscription versions

DO NOT USE LIMEWIRE OR OTHER P2P.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE!

Go to http://launch.yahoo.com
You can watch music videos and listen to online radio stations all day long for free and perfectly legal.

LIMEWIRE and all those other P2P's are simply being used to distribute copyrighted music and movies. Which is ILLEGAL! Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.

I like live365.com, you can listen to loads of radio stations there, every kind of music. They'll ask you if you want to download their client but you can also listen with realplayer or something, if I'm not mistaken.
