I use Flomax and wonder why I can't eat grapefruit. Does anyone know?

Grapefruit affects enzymes in your intestines which can lead to greater absorbtion of certain medications which could possibly bring them to toxic levels in your bloodstream.

Tamsulosin (Flomax) has the possiblilty of this type of interaction so grapefruit should be avoided.

Grapefruit interferes with the break down of the medication in your system that results in more of the medication being in your blood stream than the doctor intended when writing the prescription. There are several medications grapefruit interacts with: most anti-anxiety meds, some asthma, cholesterol lowering and heart medications.
