I was thinking of going to South Africa next year for about 2 or 3 weeks with my friends, and I need advice.
what would be a good place to stay, i was thinking of Cape Town but i kow its a rib job for tourists like me, but where else is safe yet has all the touristy things and the scenery. Plus, I need to know where i can get cheap accomodation, food, entertainment, shopping, and things to do that aren't just for tourists either...
And when i say cheap i mean really CHEAP, i intend to travel on a tight budget..
also, will i be able to get by on just english or will i need to learn some Afrikaans, i can speak basic dutch, but its not the same is it...
please any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Check out the below link. They have links for individual places you can request brochures from. Above all...never leave valuables on you or in your room(s). All places of quality should have a secured safe to store your things...ie:passport, jewelry etc. All you need to do is ask the desk clerk or manager. Hope you find a nice, cheap place for your trip. Good luck and have a wonderful time.

You can stay and eat cheaply in Cape Town. Stay at a hostel and buy food at a supermarket/fruit market. Central Cape town is also good for walking around. Your hostel may give you advice on shuttles to other parts of the city i.e. the Waterfront, the cable car station, Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens etc.

So firstly you need to try hostels in Tamboorskloof or Woodstock. they are much less expensive than any of the hotels for your accommodation.

Then everyone has some English - no need to learn any of the other languages that are spoken in SA. You English will get you through everywhere.

Now alternative things to do: Just go there, and look around its a vibrant place with fingers in pies you haven't even thought to dream about yet.

Enjoy

You can really give mapumalanga and the limpopo province a try..You say that you are working on atight budget.so my question to you is what is a tight budget to you? No worries about afrikaans, you will learn how to speak it here. You will be fine in english.

Kinda late, if you've already arrived. Most people make their travel and accommodation plans BEFORE they start their trip, not during it.
