When talking about the Y2K Presidential election many people talk about Florida. I understand that many simply repeat what they've heard. Joseph Stalin also understood this. Besides Al Gore, who was the last major Presidential candidate (Democrat or Republican) to lose their homestate?

To Shaz, the previous answerer: Florida would have been irrelevant had he won Tennessee, and the claims about Florida are unproven sour grapes.

The man was unwanted by his OWN HOME state...

Gore ran a terrible campaign. His stump speeches were awful, his organisation was poor and he did not let Bill Clinton campaign for him. Also, I suspect he probably took Tennessee for granted and did not spend the time on it that he should have.

In any event, the South generally votes Republican these days. Kerry did not win a single Southern state in 2004. I am not sure about the last part of your question, but it is interesting to note that Edwards was unable to bring in his home state (North Carolina) in for the Democrats in the last election. Of course, Edwards is quite unpopular in his home state. It has been said that the reason he ran for president in 2004 as opposed to running for re-election as a US Senator was because it was recognised that he would never win re-election.

I agree that Gore's failure to win his homestate played a huge part in his losing the 2000 election. I think the reason Florida got so much attention was because of the allegations of voter fraud and that Bush's brother is the governor of Florida.

Because the deciding factor was Florida which screwed up a very simple process on purpose to steal the election for Bush.

Lets see ONLY democratic ballots were affected, there were so many uncounted ballots to give Gore the victory, Gov was Dubya's bro...conclusion..criminal.

Now why bring up homestate when the criminal activity was in Florida?

Al Gore is a putz.

His new "environmental" concerns are a joke. Don't see him giving up his limo rides and big homes to save the planet.

Obviously, the people in Tennessee are bright and educated.

Al Gore lost because people from Tennessee were smart enough not to get suckecd in by liberal hype. The media ignores it because of liberal media bias...its called survival The reason Florida is echoed is because many liberals are heartached by the loss and demand a do over to smooth over shallow ego in the loss. Being politcally correct, we are cautioned that we need to specifcally watch over the elderly in Miami and Dade counties and their diminished capacity to understand the vote. Consider that recently voters in Florida are asking for a do over again and ...you guessed it...another liberal loss in the works.

Brain-dead, inbred, Bible-banging hillbilly bullies live in Tennessee. What's more important because it is not allowed to be mentioned about this degenerate, pseudo-White race is that they are sick masochists who actually like to be pushed around by the rich.
