If i have an Xbox 360 can i play online multiplayer with other people on Silver edition?

The only time you can play on the silver is the first week or month (whatever it is) then you can only download things. Also I have read on the xbox website that every month or so they have a week where everyone that has a silver can play xbox live...I think thats what I have read.

no, u have to have gold to be able to play multiplayer online, silver only allows u access to marketplace etc

No, you can only play if your gold.
