When researching a dream featuring iconic imagery, it helps to research what that imagery means. Oftentimes, we have a dream about something that will often propel us to discover the meanings of what we remember. This is because, without us realizing it, the imagery is meant to connect with us somehow.

In looking up the meaning of a Koi, I found that in Japanese mythology (which is what it sounds like your dream is founded upon) it represents transformation. I have listed the source I found this information from, but will repeat it here: " Wild Koi swim upstream to spawn. There is an ancient Japanese legend that if a koi swims all the way up the Yellow River to a point called Dragon Gate, and swims up the waterfall at that point, it will turn into a Dragon. Many people get new tattoos when they begin a change in life that will lead them toward greater fulfillment and happiness."

It sounds like you are being encouraged into a transformation that will only end up benefitting you. The fact that it was a pendant, and very intricately carved (from your description), implies that it is something you can both hold onto and let go when you no longer need it (you can put a pendant on or take it off). Perhaps the artistry suggests the transformation is happening to your artistic side; as you swim towards your artistic goals, you are working towards becoming an artistic 'dragon', strong and confident in oneself.

This is simply one possible interpretation.

I've studied lots of shaman teachings. A spirit may have
actually given you something of power on a spiritual
level. Painting it might help bring the power into
your reality. Go for it!
