I think their point is *livestock* is bad for the environment. This isn't a hamster or a goldfish but the millions & millions of cows, sheep, and poultry. Imagine how much waste a factory farm barn of 100 cows produces? This runs right into the creeks and into our drinking water.... they don't have to treat their feces run-off with a sewer plant.
Also keep in mind about 2/3 of the acres of land growing crops are just growing food we throw away by giving to cows. Imagine how many people in the world we could feed if that wasted corn, barley, oats, and soy were kept for human consumption? It takes about 10 lbs of grain to make 1 lb of meat.
Environmentally friendly:
- organic is better than regular
- PEOPLE need to stop eating meat. Carnivores like cats can't live on an all-tofu diet, but people do not need meat at all to be healthy
- free range and grass fed is better than regular (factory farmed)

It depends on which emission you talk about. The problem we are talking about here is simply metane (produced by cattle during the digestion) which is harmful to the ozon layer as well as the cattle manure (amonium nitrate) which poisins ground water.
Tetrazykline (Antibiotika) given to animals also end up in nature.
But private pets are a totally different story. I dont know how it is where you live but here in Germany we always got the choice what we buy and to which extent it is environmentally friendly. Dogs and cats usually eat what humans left over, so I dont see anything wrong with it. Our dog was also given cereals which we got from ecological farm outside our city. The farmer there didnt use any pesticides. So thats about the only measure that would come to my mind.

I believe he is talking about the emissions from slashing rain forests and making animal feed.
Animals reared for human consumption are not pets--animals reared for human consumption are cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, baby cows, etc. Regardless, why would you blame the animals when it's the humans who are the ones in control?
Yes you can buy environmentally friendly pet foods, it just may be more expensive but it is usually healthier as well.

They're probably talking about burger places. There are so many cows living in grass fields that will poop and release methane gas. Cows need a lot of land and grass to feed on and to be raised properly. Burger places are destroying land by having too much cow poo all over the place.
