There was always a small Jewish population in what is now the modern state of Israel. Between 1880 to 1920 tens of thousand migrated mostly from Europe. By the time of Israel's independence the Jewish population has risen to over 400,000 Jews. After independent 100,000 of thousand of Jews migrated to Israel who were refugess from Europe (survivors of the Holocaust) and other Jews mostly from Arab countries where they were evicted even though the Jewish communities in the countries had gone back more than 2000 years. Of the nearly Six million Jews who live in Israel today the number is nearly equal as to who can trace their ancestory migrating there from Europe as well as from the Middle East. In other words the answer is both true and false.
Good Luck!!!

Like B for Bernadette says, it depends on the time frame. So when are you talking about? During the 15th century many Jews were exiled from Spain and went to the Ottoman empire, mainly Salonica, Greece but also Palestine. But the biggest move of Jews took place in the late 19th century, when the Zionist movement arose, and in particular after the turn of the 20th century. Some of this migration was legal (the Ottomans sold them land), some of it illegal. Before and after the UN voted to create Israel after WWII, there was more movement (both legal and illegal). The Palestinians by and large got shafted since they became minorities where once they were majorities, but that's life sometimes.

Many Jews moved to Israel from Arab countries. The Arabs persecuted the Jews and threw them out.
