During labour, delivery, shortly post-partum, etc.

Apropos of a 'blighted ovum' (short form: miscarriage), I ended up in the maternity ward (!!!), having surgery.

Trying to get adequate pain relief before and after the surgery, and sedation so I could sleep the night I was there, was a pain. Not much, and it eventually showed up, but enough of a pain to leave me unconvinced that a hospital birth is the way to go if worried about pain relief. (NB: midwives -- here, anyway -- can prescribe/provide drugs.) Given that all that was, obviously, without any concern vis-a-vis a baby and the effect of the drugs on same, I'm wondering how often there's a substantial delay in getting pain control when needed and requested.

As it was, I was left feeling like I should apologise -- and did, and was less than thrilled with the reaction. There was a lot of "Of course you're going to be in some pain!" Yeah -- but I didn't expect to have the minimum done for it when in a hospital.

Whether for this type of pain or "something" for an injury or, illness, a hospital isn't going to "juice" you up so your "floating" you have to have some sense of moderation so they know how you feel and can actually answer them instead of just moaning.
Some people can have a headache and there no good to anyone while some can be seriously injured or in serious pain and still act like nothing is going on. I have a very high pain tolerance and am like this so, one shot is not for all. It has to be given over a period of time.
You have to remember some pain relievers can kill you. They have to be given with caution. It's to bad you had to feel some pain but, that's not why you were there.

My daughter went through this, while she was screaming for "something" to take the pain away I told her that whatever she was getting, so was the baby. This has to be kept under consideration also.

With my second son I had a lot of complications...they kept up pretty well at the hospital with my meds..but the day I was leaving it was a fight to get them to give me something other the advil to take home! No sh*t we're going to be in pain ..but do they have to make us suffer?? I mean some Labor and delivery personnal are so rude! They told me the same thing about pain..and my midwifes were no help!! I was told to go to a regular ob/gyn this time around..and boy is she great! I don't see a problem this time around considering I will be having a c-section due to the complications with the last delivery! GOOD LUCK
