Only between their legs (and a couple of details connected with it). All other differences are socially constructed due to some imagined roles sexes are expected to play. Even the brain function. Scientists have tested their brains when they are already deeply socialized. However, the socialization is what makes us using one half of the brain more than another and this fact is very often misused to "prove" that women are less capable for doing certain jobs than men. Try to imagine a world in which M&W are socially equal: their brains will probably function more equal due to their social roles will be more equally shared.
jonmcn49, if you think that I have no explanation, you are a bit wrong. What is socially constructed here is the stupid idea to expect monkeys to know what are truck and dolls. Do you really believe that monkeys know that truck is a truck and doll is a doll? They might know that these were toys as well? Anyway, what this experiment is supposed to prove? Since female monkeys have chosen the dolls, it is clear that human female should stay home, look after kids and don't dear to try to drive the trucks. Bravo! Come on, give me five more tumbs down.
Edit: fishman, are you able to think out of male/female categories? I am not denying the differences between men and women but I am very critical about misusing scientific results to discriminate women. Moreover, what about hermaphrodites, homosexuals, transvestites and bisexuals? They are real people as well but can hardly fit someone's narrow-minded picture of the world. In addition, who are you to teach us what is reality and real world?

Am I in the right section? The fishman gives an evolved/neurological answer that refutes social constructionist ideology and gets many " thumbs up " Aurora, gives us the usual, political correct, ideological driven answer and gets many thumbs down. Bravo!! They may be hope for social science yet. Or perhaps all the PC crowd just fell asleep at the switch.
How do you do it, fishman?
PS fishman. There is a new study of young vervet monkeys that show the variance in toy choice for play. Trucks and rag dolls were given to both sexes of vervets, at the same time. The little male vervets preferred to play with trucks, on average and the little female vervets preferred to play with dolls. Explain that as social construction, Aurora? You can't, because vervets have no such social conditioning and the only thing they pick up from humans are bananas. This definitely shows some innate sexual variance. Fishman, e-mail me, for there is much more info on this.

I think the physical differences have been covered...Neurologically speaking different parts of the brain are more active in different genders and neurochemical levels are also at different grades. thus, for example, the female brain has been proven to be superior to the male brain at focusing on a number of different objects at the same time while the male brain has better vision centers, leading to quicker perception of individual objects. Wikipedia "neurochemistry", it's bound to have something.

Aside from the obvious physical differences, their brains function differently. For example, men and women use different portions of their brains to drive a car...men are more centered on the depth perception and spatial orientation area, while women are more centered in the memory section. This makes men better, generally, at reading maps, too. If you ask a man for directions, you'll likely get a lot of "lefts" and "rights" and street names. Ask a woman, and you'll get landmarks (from memory)...just be sure she's not a feminist or you'll get nonsense. ;-p
Seriously though, men and women's brains function differently, with associated differing strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately for women, we live in an age where feminism attempts to bury this truth in favor of trying to paint men and women as equally capable of all mental (non-physical) tasks. It's just not true. Women are better at multi-tasking, which is why they are better at being a secretary or cooking a full meal simultaneously. Most men could never keep their bosses agenda straight and would burn half the food! On the other hand, men have a much higher mechanical aptitude...they generally make better design engineers and draftsmen, not to mention have a much easier time fixing the family car.
There are solid reasons behind gender roles in a family, folks. The traditional roles are designed to make the most of what each gender has to offer, and are equally valuable in a family. Don't ever let some fembot tell you otherwise.
Edit - Aurora - Sorry, but you're deluded. The changes have been proven to occur in the womb. Physical sex is determined early with a wash of appropriate hormones from the mother...pshychological sex is determined by a second wash of hormones later in the pregnancy. The second wash of hormones determines how the brain will function before the child is even born. Feminists will always see the world as they choose to instead of the way it is. That's why their methods of achieving happiness never work...they're fantasy-based. You might as well try to achieve life-long happiness by permanently hooking yourself into an RPG on your X-box.

"The traditional roles are designed to make the most of what each gender has to offer""? fishman, you are so pathetic. Women have much more to offer than you are ready to accept. You might have some problems with strong and successful women. Open your mind and get a life!
