Temporary indicates a brief, impermanent period of time, with a defined beginning and an end.
Migration is basically the movement by humans from one locality to another.

What of the temporary migration of the thousands who fled after Hurricane Katrina.

temporary migration is where people leave one location for another, expecting to return in the short to medium terms

Examples of this could be people fleeing wars or famine or other disasters.
for instance people fled Ruanda during the massacres there, and afterwards. during the massacres those being oppressed fled to nearby states to escape slaughter, afterwards many of those who did the slaughter fled to escape retribution
OR
consider the Ethiopians in the mid to late eighties feeling staravtion (mostly environmental, but alos political actions) to seek food and shelter elsewhere.

OR consider Germans feeling what became East Germany as the Russians advanced and took reprisals for what happened in Germany.

OR consider people who fled to the UK & further afield as the Germans invaded, expecting to return toi their homelands when the Germans were defeated (think of the Poles who were betrayed by Britains post war government), but also those people who returned to Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium & France
All these people expected to return

Most grants of Asylum in the west are temporary grants for people fleeing persecution witht the expectation that they will return to their homeland after the hiatus that triggered their fluight dies down or is removed. However many peolel granted asylum do not intend returnign to their homeland irrespective of conditions there, so their migration is permamanent. THey seek temporary shelter, but want permamenent status.

Its not unusual for

i would have thought that the displacement of people through conflict or civil war would cause a temp migration. People flee their own country until the problem abates

Its where people/workers move to certain parts of the world to work for instance. Say people move to tobacco growing areas to pick the tobacco crop then once its picked they go home. Seasonal workers. Can work with animals too, birds go South in the Winter to be warmer.
