Pnatt, what a very generalized question, as if you polled all Americans and found this ignorant question to be true.

Aside from the dumb beer commercials, the Outback car and restaurant, we know quite a bit about the Australian culture; however have not interacted with many from that particular part of the world. I became friends with a lovely woman, Linda, whose husband was working for SGLI temporarily (stayed here for 2 years and was done) and found them to be quite wonderful. In my mind, prior to becoming friends with Linda and Val, I was under the impression, most Australians were despicable people who ran over the aborigines and treat them currently like dirt; or that they were like that stupid crocodile dundee guy. I did not watch the other crocodile show much, the one with the host that recently passed away - however, he was rather nice and showed a much better representation of Aussies than the "beer swilling" ones I'd imagined from the many commercials we see here.

So be careful what you say because images sprout up from more than just the news we hear about. Some of us read, you know!

For those respondents who imagine that Americans only know about their own culture, come on over and have a sit with us; you'll find many of us well traveled and not as small minded as you learned from the media!

I'm not an American, but I think that the Americans (Mostly) don't care about other US states, and they have enough confidence for not learning a second language, and for not reading about other cultures.
