in addition to the above answers, red also has a psychological effect on the brain as well. For some reason red initiates a higher response than say pink. some associate this with anger or some to sense of being noticed quicker.

I am a color blind person. It matters very little what my opinion is. If I were to complain about my handicap then i am no different than the other useless cripples out there. instead of asking the world to change i adapt. the color spectrum is used more and more on a daily basis. you cant go to the grocery store now without anything being color coded. when stop lights were first used for traffic color codes were not as widely used. Americans wont change because color is simple enough.

because red is the color of danger. blood, hour glass on black widow, chameleon turns red when threatened, etc red means danger

because red has the longest wavelength in the visible spectrum so it travels to much larger distance so visible over along distance
