As we get nearer to xmas the last thing I have to buy is a laptop. I am dreading going shopping. Should I take the easy option and order from Dell (their prices are good and both my brothers have had a pc and lap top from them, and have no problems that I am aware of). Or should I make the trip to PC World. The laptop if for gaming, internet and watching dvds (light usuage).

Go with Dell. PC world over-charge and you pay more for the same spec. machine.

Plus their sales people are only interested in the sale - not after sales service. They must be on a good commission if you ask my opinion.

Dell. That is my best bet.

I would always recommend Dell over PC World. You can go to the Dell website and customise your PC/Laptop. You then know exactly what you are getting at a great price. Their support is also very good.

PC world are no good for service or price! Have a look at some of these reports:

I wouldn't go to PC World. Their prices are a rip-off, and most of their staff haven't got a clue. They're just low quality sales monkeys in it for the commission.

I have a Dell and have no problems.

I'd shop around and compare prices, you'll definitely find cheaper places than PC World.

Don't know about laptops but I always buy used desktop machines.
Places like Banks are always upgrading machines and selling off the old ones (sometimes just 6 months old) to companies who refurbish them and sell them on. I always buy mine from a company like that.

The crucial factor that everyone forgets is after sales service. Dell may be grea tas far product and price is concerned, - but so is PC World. The catch comes in when you need to have repairs done and it takes months for Dell to respond and to resolve the issue. PC World is not much better, but you do get your kit returned quicker.

You've answered you're own question really. You dread shopping and you have 2 recommendationms with no problems.

You don't say anything good about the PCWorld option.

I know people with Dells, thier retail side seems good service....just be firm when they try to upsell the machine when you order.

I've just changed my Dell laptop after 4 years of tough work; It survived ok.

DO NOT GO TO PC WORLD. Almost every product I've brought from there has been overpriced and faulty. Their after sales care is rubbish. I haven't heard good things about Dell but I don't know from experience.

Oh Christ! you are a misguided soul!
PC world are the lowest of the low. They do dodgy things like sell PC's without Product keys and licences. Dells PC's are overpriced and badly designed, they put high quiality Processors with low speed drives and cards. altogether not a good buy. Thier laptops are Okay...ISH! They are better than the pcs, What kind of gaming are you doing? if you mean like minesweeper or games built to play on old machines then a basic inspiron 1501 will do ya. but if you want to play City of heroes or America's army you want to go for something like a Inspiron 6400 - the one with the Core 2 Duo Processor and 2 GB of Memory. that pretty cool. dont buy one of the XPS's tottaly shoddy construction. i personaly wouldnt go for a dualcore yet cause their stilll relatively new tech, but thats cause im the kind of loser who makes their own laptop :D Basically stay away from PC world, Dell 4 the win!

Go to www.dell.co.uk/outlet and ther you can buy NEW Computers at reduced prices. This is due to a change in specification or a cancelled order. You can also get a further reduction of £95 When you are on the site Click on Home and on the Right Click on to the drop down menu for the type of computer you are interested in.

dell are a well established company. you only have to look at how many big institutions use dell. you will get a well made long lasting machine, it may cost a bit more to start with but it will be worth every penny. you could also try dell outlet, they have off the shelf systems there. they are slightly cheaper.

Dell have a much better aftercare service which i why they is they are more expensive.

The warranty i got from PC World left little to be desired, i had been paying for it for 4 years but the company that PC World used had gone out of business 2 years ago! still they took my money! lush!
