Thus far, I know of pavement, tv on the radio, spoon, sufjan, joanna newson, the hives, velvet underground, neutral milk hotel, tapes n tapes, bloc party, the radio dept, the books, boys least likely to, flaming lips, the shins.
That's all I can think of now. I don't know if that's "indie" but its the stuff I'm liking.

Gimme bands that aren't too emo though that's stuffs annoying.

You have a good start! I would look into The Dears (their latest album is really awesome), Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Of Montreal (vocals sound similar to Shins), The Shys, Cold War Kids, Voxtrot (has an EP out that's really good; I downloaded from iTunes), Boards of Canada, Stars, Kings of Leon, The Faint, The Rapture.
