I would be inclined to get a definite yes on your internal move. Do you enjoy working for your present employer and how do you see your long term prospects especailly in the light of your forthcoming move. And are you happy with them as an employer and how important is this salary in terms of your own financial and family commitments if any. Also what is the pension scheme like
The IT Position in the Secondary School though the salalry is considerably lower may offer you more security as your salary will come from your local authority and it will be a pensionable position no doubt. Will you been in sole charge of IT in the school or will you have a line supervisor and therefore the opportunity of promotion whould it arise. Can you manage on a lower salary
Ask yourself before all this happened to you were you content and did you have job satisfaction? You will have your answer to your dilema once you have answered this question.
All the best and what a fortunate position to be with two jobs on offer. You must be good at your job. Oh and one last detail which is very important is the job offer at the School just a promise or the done thing. You don't want to jump and find yourslef with neither job.

Thats a big salary difference and normally staying inthe same company does not yield that much of a pay increase so you are lucky with the offer.
I would consider what I like about the company I am already working for. Forget the job you are in now and think about the advantages of staying with the same employer. If you cannot think of many advantages then maybe it is time to move on?
Perhaps you may also speak with your employer and ask for a definate move date and also offer to help find your replacement. It may be worth telling them you have another offer, but that you would rather stay with them, and you are prepared to wait for the right job, but that you need to know when you will be able to move.

Wait for the internal move, you'd kick yourself if you went for the job at the school and someone got your internal job quite quickly. Although you hate your job right now, February isn't that far away and even if they were to delay you, they shouldn't do it for too long, the pay is better. I think the pro's outweigh the con of having to wait longer.

Money really isn't everything! A job in a school brings so much more than just the salary - excellent benefits, great holidays, great fun if you get on with the kids, good prospects. Go for it!

Think long and hard.
Money is just another way of keeping score in the game of life. If you enjoy being around young people, that will more than make up for being forced to eat sausages rather than fillet steak.
