Usually most orphanages or hospitals have contact details of biological parents who gave up their child. You cannot simply give up a child anonymously, unless you leave the child on someones door step.

Also try the local adoption groups active in the city / region or country you were adopted from. Friends of ine are adopted, and via these routes they found their biological family.

Good luck!

I'd've thought the best place to start was to ask your adoptive parents for any information they have. Other than that it will depend on where you live and where you were adopted. There are government agencies in the UK that you can contact for this information once you reach 18, but you don't say where you live, so it may be different there.

Even if your adoptive parents don't have much information you should discuss this with them as the search for your birth parents will have a huge emotional impact on all of you.

I would also be careful about the language you use. Your real mother is the person who raised you and cared for you and fed you and clothed you and hopefully loved you. Your birth mother, for whatever reason good or bad, gave you away.

There are some online sites you can go to and post or check out. You might even try the court house and petition to have yours opened. Your birth certificate should tell you where you were born at least, so you know what court house to go to. Also years ago, they used to post adoptions in the newspapers, the adoptions didn't become final in the courts for 1 year. So check out the newspapers from that year in the city where you were born for the time period of your first birthday.
