I don't understand, when everyone is at the huddle. It seems some players are allowed to move around freely, but while others if they even twitch its a penalty. Can someone please explain this to me?

The front five offensive lineman can't move until the ball is snapped, what another addition to that rule is that there must be at least 7 offensive players on the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball. Those two mobile offensive players (who are not lineman) but ARE on the line of scrimmage, cannot flinch either. If they make any movement, they must follow through with that movement (man in motion). Otherwise if they "twitch" at or before the snap of the ball it is also considered false start.

And of course all defensive players are free to move anywhere behind their side of the line of scrimmage.

I'm assuming you are talking about after they are out of the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. once a linemen is in his stance he can't twitch or move at all this rule is in effect so that the offensive line can't draw an offside penalty on the defense. but tight ends, wide outs, and half backs can go into motion to manipulate an exploit in the defense.

I don't know! I have no clue about football! My boyfriend is the offensive/ defensive lineman, and I don't know crap about football! All I know is that it is not good when they throw the little yellow flag and the announcer says "there's a lot of laundry on the field"

everybody except the 5 offensive lineman can move. if any of the lineman move, it is considered a false start b/c it can be used to get the defense to go offsides
