One of my sisters fell of from the 2nd floor. Her spinal cord has broken. Her age is about 26. Doctors say she would not be able to sit /walk all her life???
My question, can the spinal cord be replaced? Where can it be done and how can I proceed..
I'm in London

The answer to your question is No, the spinal cord cannot be replaced and no commercial procedure is likely to be available soon. The reason is that bones (plates of spinal cord) may be replaced, but the nerves cannot.
However, the spinal cord can be repaired to some extent, but it takes an awful lot of time. The plates would be operated by now, but your sister would take a lot of time to even sit/walk. Keep your fingers crossed. Pray to god. Time is the only healer in this case. I can assure you of one thing, even if doctors say, there is still hope and that your sister may be able to walk soon. The time span should take a minimum of 2 years. Depends on person to person and the degree of the problem.

Current open market technology can only repair not replace the spinal cord. It's a pretty intricate and amazing thing.
