Variability on a fetal monitor (CTG) indicates the beat to beat difference this is usually 5 to 10 beats per minute. If less than 5 beats per minute the midwives will want to check that baby is OK. Most of the time its because baby is asleep, midwives tend to give you ice cold water to drink to try and wake the baby up, if this does not work, then sometimes movement of some kind will work. Without seeing your CTG tracing I can't be 100% sure, but there must of been accelerations present and no decelaertions at all, else they would have kept you in hospital.

If your baby's movements change at all call your hospital straight away so they can check you over, even if baby movements are better when you get there its better to be safe than sorry. The midwives are used to this kind of thing they are more than happy to check you over, thats what they are there for.

trust me, its a good thing that the variablities in the heart rate were normal....if they werent that would mean that the heart rate was not normal (either slowing down at times and then speeding up at other times for no reason)...if that were the case that is a sign on fetal distress and they could have possibly induced you then and there to have the baby!!!! you are only 34 weeks and not considered full term, so they want to make sure that baby is going to stay in there a little longer. she checked you constantly because due to the fact that you have lost your plug (which keeps the cervix closed) you could really start dilating anytime now!

be thankful you were sent home....and good luck!

I would not worry if they had any concerns they would keep you in. They would not risk you or the baby. My daughter in law was in and out of hospital having scans as her blood pressure went up and down but the baby is lovely and fit and well.

Once your waters do go they will have you in as that is what protects the baby from infection. The plug normally comes out just before the waters break but as that has not happened they are happy for you to carry on. If you have any concerns do not hesitate to go back and ask that is what they are there for. You being stressed and upset will not help the baby.

Trust all goes well. Good luck

I had the same problem and everything was fine. I always used to look at the moniter but it was usually on one level, whereas before i had this problem, it was all over the place. I'm sure everything will be fine, but if they do get really worried about the baby. They will do whatever they think is best for you both. Good luck!

They like to see the baby's heart rate changing as it indicates that the baby is having active and resting periods. Sometimes if the heart rate is slow (resting) they try and wake the baby up by poking you or asking you to move around.

ok, they mean that your babies heart beat isn't changing to your movements, such as you going into town could have caused your babys heart rate to rise, but it didn't, this isn't a problem as it shows that your baby is now starting to rely on its own heart beat and im sure that your baby will be perfectly healthy. happy parenting!!
