With reference to the Supreme Court Judgement in the Parliament attack case awarding death sentence to the accused, Home Minister has said that it would take upto 7 years for the Parliament to dispose off a Mercy Petition to the President. Has he (Home Minister) not transgressed his limits and has given his own judgement suspending the hanging for seven years? Does not this amount to Contemt of Court by over ruling the order of the highest judiciary of the land?.

How this is contempt of court? Home minister made statement regarding time taken to decide the mercy petition by the President not time taken to implement courts order. If the guilty person moves the mercy petition for which he has constitutional right how can any one stop him? It is the failure of the Central Govt in deciding the fate of such petition for which they are responsible in delaying the whole issue. Had it been delay in implementation of courts order definitely the Govt was Guilty of Contempt of court but for delaying the decision on the mercy petition it is not contempt in legal terminology. Now if they take seven years to decide such an issue it is the utter failure of the Govt for which the people of India to see & decide at the time of election what type of Govt they are electing to lead them. The old saying justice delayed is justice denied should not only be quoted in judicial matters but even in executive matters.
