An education for the sake of learning, not for the sake of moneymaking or career growth.

Techx69- If thats what Liberals stand for why is that they are the ones that will not let a speaker talk at their colleges if they disagree with them politically? (freedom of speech) I thought you were for protecting civil liberties? Seems that you are the ones that cannot take any other thought processes or anyone that disagrees with you.

As for a Liberal education that could mean either attending a college and studying Liberal arts or it could mean a college predominantly staffed by Liberal Democrats and espousing a party line to their students. And I thought College was for an Education that was directed towards your future career choices and to assist you in getting a better paying position in the future? Silly me! Seems it is just for the fun of learning things with no particular direction or reason. Wonder If I can take a couple of courses on one sided political debating? That would make it easier to win the debate! I forgot that is what Liberals do now. Say their point of view then scream at the other people so they cannot express theiir view!

This is a debate that has been occurring recently. Conservatives believe that the Educational system today is full of liberals who do not share the same values as they do. Conservatives believe that the Educational system is systematically undercutting the values historically held by this country, particularly family values. They feel that the schools are indoctrinating students to accepting things that Conservatives believe are immoral and wrong. This also goes beyond moral values. There are certain schools, colleges particularly who teach that the US is inherently bad. Conservatives have a different theory on that. A lot of Colleges and schools push Communist ideas. There are many Americans who reject Communism outright, believing that Government supported schools pushing Communism and Secular Humanist ideals is akin to the same schools pushing Christianity.

A liberal arts education is intended to provide general knowledge and intellectual skills rather than specialized job skills or scientific training.

socialism disguised as the need to impose only the correct progressive ideas (left) on their captive students...

93 % of all professors contributing to a political party contributed to the democratic party...

Yale banned ROTC training on campus yet sought out & recruited a high ranking ex-member of the Taliban...who smiles and says "I could've ended up in Gitmo but instead I end up at Yale."
..Duh..removing ROTC why? Are the students in need of protection from the concept that some people choose to volunteer to protect and die for the freedom of this country?? Clearly access to "other concepts" (i.e. failure to have the ability /desire to protect that which one hold dear is a recipe for loss...) is just toooooooooo dangerous ; It will interject independent thought-->which will counteract the propaganda program....(military is "bad" may make others in the world nervous or uncomfortable...advocated killing, brings destruction.forces young people into danger..etc..)
...God forbid, we actually let people assess different ideas or learn the real facts....
Far better to instill a standardized thought pattern and not have to deal with the problems caused by those who disagree or challenge..
"progress" must be directed towards the "correct" goal..(the population must be managed by the elite who will do so from their luxury penthouses, summer homes, yatches and Rivera condos.

I know what liberal studies are. In college you have your major courses... Which are obviously courses that you need for your major, but then there are liberal studies which are side classes like low level English and Math classes that most people have to take before they can start their major studies. It's to prove that you can do more than just what you are doing for your major.

So I am guessing liberal education is something within those boundaries.

Sounds great, but do you really believe Liberals can be educated?
Maybe a school for mentally challenged, and a very patient kindergarten teacher.

It's more Art, History & Social Science than most majors. Geared mostly for people who want to teach school.

Wikipedia actually has a good article on it:

It is the cause for the current disintegration in our public schools. Teachers teach their opinions instead of facts and hold brighter students back while they give the dimmer ones enough do-overs until they finally get it.

A free-ended education that is coupled with activities that correspond with what you're studying. Usually has no boundries in it's courses and always ends up with an advanced degree. be well, Jack
