The first HMV shop was opened in 1921 at 363 Oxford Street, one of London’s most prominent shopping streets, and HMV has developed into one of the world’s leading retailers of music, video and games.
The name comes from a painting :
In 1898 Barraud completed the painting and registered it on 11 February 1899 as "Dog looking at and listening to a Phonograph".
This became the all-famous logo of a disk company.

If you look at the logo you will see a bulldog staring down the cone of an old gramaphone, listening to some music or speech. This is where the name HMV came from standing for His Masters Voice... hope this helps ur quest in life!

his masters voice
The name was coined in 1899 as the title of a painting by English artist Francis Barraud of the dog Nipper listening to a wind-up gramophone.
