If you were adopting a Chinese baby you would not need to learn Chinese. Babies are born with the ability to learn any language at all and learn whichever is around them most in the early months.
After about 6 months of age the ability to differentiate between the tones of another language starts to drop off so if you think your child might want to learn Chinese when older it would be nice to play tapes of its birth mother's language to them so that they have some familiarity with the sounds of the language.

No. If the baby is only 2 months old you will be able to teach him or her to speak in english just by talking to the baby as you would any baby. If you would like to learn chinese so that you can teach you baby to be bilingual and celebrate his/her culture then that would be a beautiful gift to your new child.

No they have not developed there language skills yet, The baby will learn English. Right now they go by the tone in someones voice. Even if they are one or two you don't need to learn it.

nope its not necessary to learn chinese. if a baby is surrounded with english people then the baby will learn english. if the baby is surrounded with chinese , japanese, spanish people then the baby will learn the langauge which is in his environment..
so as long as your talking english to him then thats the language that he will learn. everything will change according to his environment, except his chinese root.

No, you don't have to but it would be nice for you to let her know that she has a Chinese heritage. I have a niece and nephew who were adopted from Korea and we let them know all about their Korean world and the fact that their mom and Dad had to have their adopted sister because she was a natural child however, they were chosen to be their children which makes them feel better about themselves.

no, the baby will learn the language he hears and he's being talked.....and unless you are like VERY smart there's no way in earth you could learn to speak chinese fluidly to teach a child....that language can't be learned overnight.

Need? no
I would suggest it though, even if you don't want to learn it yourself, you should have it taught to your new child. That way the baby will grow up to be a medium between both cultures and will be a valuable ascet.

No. Just talk to him in English and he will learn.
Humans learn the most when they are babies.
