I am uncircumcised, and am curious about if I were to use surgical tape to retract the foreskin for a long period of time, would the foreskin shrink keeping the head exposed? Or is circumcision the only way?
Serious Question.

Why in the world would you want the head exposed all the time? Foreskin is great - keeps you soft, moist, comfortable, and able to really make your woman happy. Taping it back keeps it from performing its function. You need to really think about why you would want to do this to your body. It sounds to me as if you have some serious body-image issues to work through.

It doesn't work that way, the foreskin doesn't shrink. However, the more you keep it retracted, the longer it can stay retracted because it gets used to it and the glans (head) gets a little bigger.

Circumcision is the only way to keep the glans permanently exposed, because depending on what you do, the foreskin will always fold back over the glans. I've read accounts of people who keep their foreskins retracted since before puberty and their foreskins aren't as long as they might be otherwise, but I don't know how true this is.

Circumcision is the only way to retract the foreskin and keep the head of your penis exposed. It is done in young adult males but usually for medical problems not just a preference. It is quite painful for adults as you might imagine . Do not attempt to keep back the foreskin with surgical tape -if for no other reason than it is not going to work.

I agree with Ponysteel. Get circumcised. I had it done when I was 21, and have never regretted it. It looks much better, is easier to keep clean, does NOT reduce sensitivity, and has many medical benefits. The surgical tape idea is at best an unsatisfactory temporary means of exposing the glans. I don't think any woman (or man?) would appreciate you inserting such tape in their orifice!!

It's completely unnecessary for you to have him circumcised. I'm not circumcised and have never had any problems or complaints. I actually prefer it. I'm against the whole idea of infant circumcision without a medical reason because it's taking away the rights of the boy to make that decision himself. I also believe that it reduces sensitivity and sexual pleasure later in life and makes it more difficult to masturbate (which was why it got popular to begin with). There are no legitimate reasons for doing this to an infant. They don't even do this in Europe or Asia (unless it's for religious reasons), and in some countries like Norway and Germany, it's illegal without a medical reason for doing it. All of the so called benefits to circumcision are blown way out of proportion and when you put things into perspective you realize that it doesn't make any since at all. Pediatricians don't even recommend circumcision anymore. The only potential benefits to circumcision are a decreased chance of getting a urinary tract infection as an infant and a decreased risk of aquiring HIV virus through unprotected sex as an adult. Infants don't have unprotected sex so that one shouldn't factor into the decision at all and even if it was, circumcision is not an effective means of protection from STD's. As far as UTI's go, girls are more likely to get them than boys are. Even an uncircumcised boy only has a 1% chance of getting one. So that's not a good reason to circumcise either. Chances are, leaving him intact is not going to lead to "infections" and it's not really anymore hygienic either. As an infant it's actually easier to care for if he's not circumcised because you don't have take care of the wound or do anything at all but wipe clean. The foreskin doesn't even retract until later in childhood anyway and by then it's a simple matter of telling him to pull the skin back and wash it in the shower. It takes about 10 seconds! So don't believe all of the "it's cleaner", "it's healthier" crap. It's just a load of bull! In other words, leave the body as nature intended. Here are some of the reasons why people think circumcision should be done and the actual FACTS to go with them: 1. Circumcision lowers the chances of a male infant aquiring a Urinary Tract Infection UTI in the first few years of life from 1% to .001%. However, 1% only means 1 out of 100 boys will ever get this and female infants will get UTI's much more often than males will, but we don't circumcise them. In the grand scheme of things, UTI's are really a non-issue and an invalid reason to enforce routine circumcision. 2. Some studies have shown that circumcision reduces the chances of aquiring HIV through unprotected sex. However, other studies have recently contradicted this and in addition infants don't usually have unprotected sex, furthermore nobody should be. Condoms are the only effective way of protecting against HIV and STD's and circumcision does not decease chances of contracting other STD's. 3. Most Americans find a circumcised penis more asthetically pleasing since the majority of American men have been circumcised for so long. This isn't true however in Europe for example where circumcision is very rare and considered "different". Plus, since only half of all newborns are being circumcised in America today, by the time he was old enough for it to matter, that issue would have likely dissappeared alltogether. 4. Circumcision prevents phimosis (a condition where the foreskin is too tight to be retacted). Phimosis is not a life threatening problem. It's a very rare and pretty minor condition to begin with and there are many other (much easier and less radical) treatments for it than foreskin amputation. People that justify this surgery as "preventative maintenance" for an issue that is likely never to occur in the first place are just as bad as someone that would champion an appendectimy on infants to prevent them from getting appendicitis when they get older. Next it will be routine mastectomies for girls to prevent them from getting breast cancer. It's really ridiculous when you think about it. 5. A circumcised penis is easier to keep clean than an uncircumcised penis because smegma can't collect underneath the foreskin. Despite that, cleaning an uncircumcised penis is as simple as retracting the foreskin and washing in the shower, it literally takes about 10 seconds! Oh the heartache! Most boys will actually find that it feels pretty good cleaning that particular spot, maybe that's why people want to get rid of it! In any case this is another non issue assuming that the boy is taught proper hygeine. 6. Circumcision removes many specialized nerve cells in the penis and exposes the glans to friction which causes desensitization. Depending on your perspective this can be either a good thing or a bad thing. Pro circumcision people will tell you that less sensitivity is good to prevent premature ejaculation. Ant

You can train the foreskin to stay retracted but the downside of this is that your glans (the head of your penis), due to exposure to air and rubbing from your clothing as move and walk, will become slightly callused (the skin will thicken) and will lose it's mucus membrane quality, as well as some of the sensation, as it does with someone who is circumcised.

Here's a reference but I think the downside is beyond any possible benefits.

circumcision is the only way... i mean seriously.. think how gross that tape would be after awhile. you'd have to change it constantly and personally i wouldnt want to touch you if your dick was all taped up. I'd think there was something wrong with you... it would be a serious turn off.

Just be happy you are intact and whole. A lot of people prefer an uncut penis, and there is no real reason to keep your skin retracted.

Circumcision is the only way.

Now some information on circumcision. Keep reading...

CIRCUMCISION IS VERY BENEFICIAL, its cleaner and several research bodies have concluded that circumcised men have less risk of contracting STD's such as AIDS-HIV or herpes.

Uncircumcised penises are difficult to keep clean, and more prone to infections and penile cancer, studies have shown.
A circumcised penis is naturally clean and virtually free from urinary infection. You will not have to worry again with careful washing of your penis.

About STD's:

As I said, several studies carried out by prestigious research bodies have concluded that uncircumcised penises are more prone to infections and contraction of STD's, including AIDS-HIV. Circumcised men have been proved to be up to seven times less likely to be infected than those who are uncircumcised. Have a look at this site: http://icuxbridge.icnetwork.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=14095142&method=full&siteid=53340&headline=-circumcision-protects-against-aids--name_page.html

As for women, studies also show that circumcision also protects female partners from AIDS-HIV and other STD's. Browse this article: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/02_08_06.html

About sensitivity of a circumcised penis:

No medical or physiological study has proved that circumcision reduces sensitivity, opposed to common belief. It is completely FALSE that circumcision reduces penis sensitivity. The American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) confirms this on their web site; have a look at: http://www.aap.org/pubed/zzzjzmemh4c.htm

Circumcision is an easy and nowadays *painless* procedure, which has many benefits, and virtually no risks.
Circumcision is NOT an amputation. Circumcision is NOT comparable at all to female circumcision, which is something completely different.

Circumcision rates are INCREASING nowadays, both in the United States and overseas. Many African and South American countries with little circumcision tradition are starting to promote the procedure to help to reduce the AIDS-HIV infection rates.

Finally, this site has a lot of useful and *unbiased* information. Make sure you have a good look: http://www.circinfo.net
