Why is it almost a scorn or joke or a humiliation if one remains a virgin ? Why being a virgin is no more a virtue to be respected and sought after ?

I stayed a virgin until I got married at 26. I'm glad even though people gave me a lot of grief about it.

It is probably because it is considered old-fashioned standard, virtue that has no real grounds. I don't think it is a scorn or a joke, at least, it shouldn't be. I think the whole issue around virginity is exaggerated beyond proportions. It really shouldn't matter as much whether or not a person is a virgin. Either way should be OK. Younger people who are not virgins like to talk about it too much because this is what makes them more "experienced" in life. Younger people who are virgins like to put themselves on pedestal, to be proud of it. Older people who are virgin worry about in a totally different way. I say: "who cares".

I don't think it's scorned or a humiliation; some people still respect other people's choice to remain virgins. I sure don't feel ashamed of the fact that I am. I don't care for the idea of it being 'sought after' either.. makes it seem medieval.

yup,, its peer pressure, i got it in school and all the kids i grew up with did, i dont know any virgins anymore.
sex is fun and the kids are finding this out, itsa new way to say whos cool and whos not. any virgins reading this, hang in there ok, i met a virgin a while back (he didnt stay virgin for long tho) he was so cool, i really enjoyed talking to him, he had a different view of the world because he absteined from sex and alcohol and all those other vices. hang in there till your real sure cos u cant take it back, i wish i could take it back. you remember your first forever so make sure it can be a happy memory please.

What I have noticed though is quite a few girls and women in here asking the question does he love me. They are asking because they put out for the guy and they dont know if he is using them for sex or if the guy loves them. A virgin would know for sure if her guy loves her because if he is willing to stick around without the sex he must care a lot about her. Virgins will know but the nonvirigins are never really sure.
If you have to have sex to keep him then no he does not love you.

Being Virgin is a great state of life - an elevated stage - Now days because of materialistic attractions, not able to control the sensual pleasures, false company etc... people are not able to realise the importance of this.

(climbing down is easy but climbing up is difficult, but it takes us to the heights)

This is a fact you should keep to yourself. Who needs to know except your doctor and the man you intend to marry. Informing anyone else is seen as self righteous posturing. You may think you have good reason to blurt it out to all and sundry, but other peoples will have differing opinions. Your opinions on Virginity are your problem , not theirs. Why should they see you as virtuous? Contraception has changed the need to respect virginity. Virginity is no longer seen as a necessary quality guaranteeing the assured paternity of a husband.

because in this day and age it is more open about sex it has never been popular with individuals being a virgin so now it isn't popular with people being one openly as everyone just thinks they are lying anyway and nobody likes a liar !!

That is because people have no morals or respect for each other.
Virginity is highly prized in other countries.
