It's not a warm blooded animal and hence can change it's body temperature and can adopt more easily than we humans and other mammals can....

Ants hibernate during the cold season. Some burrow as far as 15 ft. underground for warmth.

They live on the stores they have laid up during the warmer seasons and they do slow down quite a bit -- but -- they do continue with their lives and stay busy with all the tasks that make them who they are--- they continue to serve the queen-- tend to tunneling duties and defend against all foes !!
You would probably be amazed at the temporate climate that exists at just inches below ground during some very harsh winter weather !! And they are experts in the field of insolation and drainage techniques -- they have been regular little engineers for hundreds of thousands of years !!!

Buffon...why do ants work day in & day out during summer & spring?.......coz they gotta store enough food for the barren winter...ANTS HIBERNATE DURING THE COLD SEASON !
