The important thing to note is that you must inform EVERYBODY of your decision - and that includes everybody from the tax man, all debtors, - absolutely everyone with whom you have had previous contact with so that they know both who you are now and who you were THEN !

Hello,

Changing you name by deed poll is completely legel here in the UK.

The way a name change is done requires the services of a solicitor, who will draw up the relevant documentation & forms for the person to complete. Once the forms have been completed the process has to be witnessed (usually by the solicitor should be enough!) and often an oath sworn over a bible or some kind of holli book.

A fee is charged for this service, it used to be about £20 some years ago but I would think you can probably double that atleast by todays standards given the hourly rates charged by solicitors now.

**The formal legal name change is only a start however, you will then have to have all your formal (legal) documents changed too and thats a BIG job. Meaning that everything from your bank account name & details through to your passport ALL have to be changed to the new name. Most of this can be done for free though I'm not sure about passports?

**The person also has to tell everyone esle about their new name (friends, family, work collegues, etc) or just those you want to tell obviously.

**Actually it all sounds very easy but its a tough road in reality, not for the faint hearted.

Hope that answers it for you?

Regards IR

You need to contact a solicitor, the deed poll process is very simple. The solicitor sends off the deed poll document, and you get a new name within a few days. I paid £35 about 5 years ago. Theoretically you could still be found, but this makes it a lot harder - I've had similar problems.

Yes you can. The cost should be not more than GB£35. Although some web sites offer for a lot lower than that. As for someone else finding you again that is always a possibilty as you have to imform people like the bank, National Insurance, tax man, Passport Office as well as your employer and so on.
However, if you move to somewhere else at the same time this would reduce the risk considerably.

Hope that helps

Changing your name is legal and their are various websites that can do this for you, but it's better to get a solicitor to do this for you. The only question that the solicitor will ask you is why you want to change your name.

It's quite cheap as I did mine a few months ago and it only cost me about £40 + VAT. You also get An original certificate of this as well as certified copies. The only real cost is the postage when you ahve to notify the tax people, DVLA, mortgage company etc.

As for being found by people that you don't want to, this really depends on who you are hiding from and why.

Search the web for the correct wording that goes something along the lines of "I being of sane mind do declare that from this day onwards I wish to be known as ....", get a solicitor to witness you signing it for about £10 then send a copy to all relevant parties, like your bank manager.

Yes, it's legal

I imagine you would have to do a lot more to prevent people from finding you, especially in the short term

Every person can change name through a court proceeding but it is costly. The cheaper way is to change it in the civil registry if allowed. However, the change in name but can still be traced through court or civil registry records.

Legally, you have to disclose former names when filling in applications for , eg. a job, a passport, a loan, benefits, etc. so it depends who you don't want to find you.

You don't have to do it officially either though, Just start using your new name and get everyone who knows you to start using it.

Mrs. Tiger Tony i believe that your ex ought to ought to signal a paper allowing your new guy to undertake this baby. you'd be purely right to communicate with a criminal specialist to verify this suggestion even with the undeniable fact that. it truly is somewhat complicated immediately with many alternative marriages and far of brothers and sisters having different surnames. best of luck.
