Why do lots of people call diapers nappies. It really annoys me. The first time I saw a question on here about a nappy rash I actually had to read some of the other answers to figure out what a nappy rash was. I have a son who is 11-months old and we call diapers diapers cause thats what they are called. Where in the world did calling them nappies come from?

Sorry if I upset anyone, I did not mean to. Thank-you for your answers I really just thought it was a stupid I guess nickname like thing. I stand corrected and apologize to anyone I offended

I wanted to e-mail all the p`eople who seemed to be upset by my question, alas those people do not allow e-mail. I wanted to make sure they realize that I did mean to offend. And klumzy you are right about the English thing but so many things are different in America that I feel we speak American not English. My heartfelt apologies once again.

I can see the point. To me Nappy is a totally different word. So yes it can get confusing. My daughters hair is Nappy when she wakes up in the morning. She also takes a Nappy in the middle of the day but I've never heard a diaper called nappy before. We can't knock other peoples languages/slang though so I guess I'll just have to read a little more into stuff.

Well they are only called diapers in the states - so deal with it.

Over in Australia, the UK etc they are referred to as Nappies - its just another name.

I must admit though, I find it frustrating when people call them diapers over here - They are nappies!!!

I believe the rest of the world (apart from the USA) call them nappies. What does it really matter anyway, both names are stupid!

Trust me....you guys calling them "diapers" sounds just as stupid to us as "nappies" does to you obviously.
