Superfoods For Optimum Health: Chlorella and Spirulina
by Mike Adams, the Consumer Wellness Research Center -
You can download the above book for free. I have just started taking it, based on the evidence given in this book. A nutritionalist friend of mine says it is good for removing metal deposits but there are recent reports that suggest that although it contains all the vits and mins, they are not all in a form that the body can digest and make use of.....
poo turns green --- suggests most of the algae passes through!!!

That first answer is misleading when it says spirulina contains a high amount of vitamin B12. It does contain a high amount of this vitamin BUT it cannot be used by the body.
Roughly 85% of the vitamin B12 it contains is psuedovitamin B12, which is biologically inactive in the human body. Its WORTHLESS. Go to spirulinathegreat.com to find out the truth

When you start taking spirulina you have to start with small doses for a few weeks to get used to it because if you start with the normal doses straight away you get stomache, abdomen and bowel problems. The health benefits are numerous and have been covered comprehensively in other answers.

Basically its protein. It's easy to digest. There are other nutrients in it but mostly it's a supplemented source of protein. The benefits of protein are too many to list here. Look it up in google.
