I would worry about Kennedy allowing Israel to gain nuclear capacities. The U.S. also basically gave Iran carte blanche to develop nuclear facilities years ago. I don't see why they didn't deal with Iran in an iron-fisted way 16 years ago. They have stood by and allowed them to fund terrorism in Syria and Lebanon. I am not against the people of those countries, but Hamass also gets money by way of Iran.
The only reason Israel went into Lebanon was the issue of self-defense. I understand Israeli military policy but don't love it. Men spending two months of each year in the Reserves can't be good for the family. It can't be good to have to serve three years. The civilan population is too militarized, but part of the problem isn't just government policy. It is also the very real, worsening threats against the wellbeing, security and defense of the people. Let us not forget that there are few democracies in the Middle East.
I think the settlements were a huge mistake and that Palestine could have been offered better deals. However the whole issue of refugees isn't Israel's problem. Never has been. It is like being a POW. You pick a war, you lose it, deal with it. I mean we can try to help them but they cannot resettle in Israeli territory nor can they swarm the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Palestinians should have taken the offer back in '49. I mean, they would have a country right now. The agenda of their governments, military and religious authority focus on the destruction of Israel. What does this mean to starving children in Iraq and working people killed by car bombs? What does it mean to women in Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia? Absolutely nothing.

I think that if Israel wants to make it as a country, they better do something fast. They once stopped Iraq, and everyone criticized them, including the US. But years later everyone realized what an exceptionally great job they did by bombing that nuclear reactor.
They must do it now! No one is going to do it for them!
