The invention of radio came in two parts. Wireless telegraphy is generally attributed to Guglielmo Marconi but Alexander Stepanovich Popov and Nikola Tesla also played roles in the development.

Reginald Fessenden, Lee De Forest, and Edwin H. Armstrong played important roles in the development of wireless telephony, but Armstrong was probably the greatest contributor to this technology.

Armstrong also played a part in the development of television, but he was one of a number of inventors, engineers and scientists who contributed to its development. No one person is credited with inventing television, but Fessenden, De Forest, and Armstrong played major roles in developing the vacuum tube, which was essential in the development of the cathode ray or picture tube which is essential in the development of early television technology.
