I have a "80" Malibu with a built 350 that makes close to 500 horsepower. It came with a 3 speed in the floor (rare car) and I couldn't keep the stock transmissions in it. I wanted to keep it a three speed since it came that way, so I used a Muncie. The best would be a muncie 4 speed. The reason is; If you take these transmissions apart, and compare the size of the gears to a regular 3 or 4 speed, you can easily see the gears in one of these are much wider. Borg Warner also made a transmission that looks almost identical, but they don't seem to take a beating like the Muncie. The M-21 or M-22 Muncie is by far the strongest transmissions made. The factory put these behind big blocks that made over 425 horsepower, so you know they will handle the load. If you are looking for fuel economy then go with something like a Tremac 5 speed.
Glad I could help you. Good Luck!!!

What kinda manual exactly 4, 5,or 6 speed? Depending on your rear gear ratio and rpm range & overall tourque. I would HIGHLY recommend the Richmond 5&6 speeds. It gives you the ability to run a serious gear ratio (4.10:1 and 4.56:1) on the street/strip, and still hit 150 plus on the highway! However depending on your budget the Richmond T-10 and T-10 plus are both "bang for the buck" bulletproof transmissions that can withstand the rigers of the track and pull out of your driveway for work everyday. Both are quality products by a quality company. My personal favorite however is the Muncie 4speed "ROCKCRUSHER" good luck finding one. Also in the Muncie family is the ever rare and unique Super Muncie, all those Corvette Guys know what I'm speaking of. If you come up lucky at a swap meet and spot either one of these gems SNATCH IT UP QUICK! Good luck and GREAT RACING!!!! email me if you have any other questions fellow "Bowtie"

Tremec's or T-5's are both very popular and easy to acquire.
