I had suffered from moderate, persistent cystic acne for years. I took accutane for 16 weeks almost 2 years ago and my skin has been clear since about 3 weeks after I started using it. And yes, as some people will tell you, it does get worse before it gets better because acne forming under the skin is brought out to be resolved. I myself had very few side effects aside from dry skin, chapped lips and the occasional nosebleed, but everyone is different.

The best advice I can give you is to follow your doctor's instructions, let your doctor know any side effects you're experiencing, and hang in there - accutane really does work very effectively! Good luck!

My sister has been on it for 3 weeks this Monday, she has acne on her jaw/lower cheek area.. shes on 20mg one tablet a day and at the moment she is going through her fleir up (as it gets worse before it gets better) with mild dryness.. so far so good she says, but no changes in her appearance yet... If your concerned speak to your doctor. good luck.

Accutane is a serious medication and best left up to the dermatologist to decide what dose, or whether to use at all. It's not like advil.
