Sure, but I am partly German. We are taught to be nice and put other people's feelings first. We are also taught to suppress a lot of feelings and do questionable things surreptitiously. However, I am not a bigot. I hate our history, but I appreciate our culture, language, wine, skiing and beautiful countryside.
We have also been very generous in accepting Turkish guest workers and refugees from Africa. We have not been so good with the gypsies. Rumanians have been welcome only gradually but to be honest, they didn't want to learn the language. So they made it harder on themselves. They are very nice people, though.
It is hard to learn a Germanic language when you speak a Romantic language, but with no significant number of Rumanians in the country, we never learnt it or French. French is well-known by them but we don't speak it. There is a huge emphasis on English in the school system.

We all are works in progress....what may seem hypocritical today may mean change tomorrow....to quit changing and reflecting is to live a stagnant life.
