It's a famous statement. It means that if you are responsible, you don't have time to share your life when life was simpler.
Having to be accountable because your decisions affect the many does not allow you to be able to say whatever you want and do whatever you want without consequences.
For example, Oprah Winfrey's life is a constant one. Meetings and then traveling and absolutely no time with anyone for pleasure. Just a "make time" vacation here and there with very, very few people to spend that time with.
Betty Davis once said that statement to Lauren Bacall when the studios arranged for the 19 year old Lauren to meet with Betty. Actors were studio owned and had no private life. Famous actors had to be very selective in who they could spend her time with.
A CEO or Chairman of the Board and owner of a very large multi national company has a traveling life with meetings galore. No time to spend frivolously other than to make appointments to play golf.
Famous celebrities that are world known have no private life. They have to rent a zoo or a theme park for the day so that regular people and paparazzi won't hassle them. Such as Princess Diana who crashed and died from paparazzi or Anna Nichole Smith who can't even admit who the father of her child is because of her manager's greed.
Even Nobel Prize winning Laureates. Their life is their work.
Does this help?

Because there aren't many on the top. And those looking up may be trying to pull you down, and no one on the top will help.
Pretty lonely, huh?

Because at the top of anything, there is a ninja who destroys anyone who goes up there. Very lonely indeed. And scary!

Consider a mountain.......
There is a mountain that is the largest mountain in the world. I think it's in Hawaii... Mauna loy or something......
Well, at the bottom, it is closet to the ground and it has many many rocks.... as it nears the middle, moving upwards, it begins to become less....... and the further up it goes, the less rocks or surroundings it has.... until it is the pinnacle and top of that mountain, there is nothing but that which is at the top......
Now, consider those rocks people you once knew.......
They no longer surround you.... nor are they near.....
Your sister,
Ginger

For one, most wouldn't make it to the top, so you may be there by yourself.
Then there's the fact that you can no longer trust anyone's sincerity once you are there. They are either kissing your butt or waiting to knock you down a notch!

because the people below have to say something bad about it so they don't feel so bad for not making it.
also people use you for your money, so you'd be surrounded by people who normally wouldn't talk to you. They leave with the money and always have that shallow relationship. Which you can likely see right through.
