You are sooo right! Read this information on this site and tell them this, "In your face!".

Well, you don't really have to tell them this...As long as they know the true information, it won't matter...it's just a waste of time to prove them wrong. They will stay dumb forever! Anyways...good luck!

i think u r the dum 1.

Sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about and should probably listen to what these guys are saying as they may very well know what they're talking about. The internet hasn't been around that long relatively speaking. The whole concept of Networking in computing is a relatively new concept and is still growing at a rapid rate. I have no idea what Bill Gates or Microsoft has to do with that, but whatever... I suppose that was just your way of saying "i no bout computers".

By the way: I love the people on this forum. "The internet has been around for 40 years... that's a long time!". A long time in terms of what? Your life span? Get your facts straight and in the mean time look up the History of Computers while you're at it. Also, to the one that said "Bill Gates developed personal computers", you really need to get your facts straight. Stop serving this kid bad information and sympathy. The best thing you can do is let them know the truth.

Well it depends on what you think the internet is.
If you mean those flashy internet pages that you view in Internet Explorer or any other browser, then you mean the World Wide Web. This was invented by Tim Berners Lee in 1991. So it really isn't that long ago.

However, the Idea of interconnecting computers to send emails and transfer datafiles goes way back.
In 1960 there was already the idea to create a network of several computers. The ARPA Net. This was a military invention and was later used for scientific purposes.
This was the beginning of the internet.

Read the article below, and show them how dumb *they* are...

Haha, I was going to say "Dumb enough to spell dumb without the b", but it seems a few people have already beaten me to pointing that out. Anyway, that was a rambling, run-on paragraph that really sounds like an airhead whining incoherently about someone who has just recently annoyed her. Let it go. As for the answer to...what I think I have deciphered as your question...

I'm not sure how long the internet has existed, but yeah, probably for quite awhile. I know it originated for government use, and not many people had it, even as late as the 90's, but right around the year 2000, and after, it became a very common thing. But it does sound to me like you don't really understand how it works, or how it got to this point, either. "it is now popular becus they made alot of changes to the website" ??? I'd say just keep having airhead chatter battles with your friend(s), that seems like what you've got going, here.

The Internet has been around for about 40 years now. It was just for government and universities to use. Then they opened it up for everyone to use. Bill Gates developed the personal computer, which made computers available to everyone, which opened up the Internet for multitudes of people. You are right, your friends are wrong. You might want to try the spell checker before you post though.

Let me guess.... you are 12 years old and are a reasonably intelligent person that got into an arguement with one of the popular girls.
How close am I?

You should not let other people bother you. If you do then you will become depressed.

You need to find friends around about your intelligence level because than you will share opinions and ideas.

Wait until highschool, everybody finds someone they can relate to

From now on try to be assertive, not aggressive. OR you could try to go with the old saying "If you cant beat them, join them" but I recommend the first choice

Hope that helped

The internet was "born" in 1969. But most of the common people were not on it until the mid-late 90's (depending on your area of the country). So technically you are both right.

The internet has been around since the 70s. I wouldn't put them down but you are right they don't know what they are talking about and them putting you down actually puts themselves down in return for being mean.

Get used to it the world is full of" know it alls," (not) and BSers. The important thing is that you know the truth and facts. PS the military actually began the first internet.
