I was driving down a fairly busy highway earlier and saw 3 orange lights in a triangle that I thought were on top of a far away radio tower or building. After about 15 minutes, I realized that they must have been much higher than a building... like possibly helicopters since they were just sitting in one spot. Then suddenly one of them shot off to the left like a shooting star, and was gone in a second. About 5 minutes later, a second one shot off so only the one on top was left. I kept my eye on the third one, but it dimmed out after a while, and I eventually couldn't see it anymore.

Any ideas?

Ive seen this before when an airbase nearby was practicing for an airshow. They had planned to do a night flight of a b2 stealth bomber for a test. I heard it coming, so I ran outside to see 3 of them flying overhead. At first, all I saw were 3 sets of 3 lights in a triangular pattern, then as they flew overhead, I saw the silloette of the b2's. You can see by the picture here that they have a triangular pattern. http://www.fas.org/irp/mystery/b2.jpg Ive also seen airplanes flying straight toward me and it just looks like a bright dot of light in the sky for about 5-10 minutes until they start to move. Kinda wierd at first.

Aliens....nah just joking, but maby it could have been like everyone else say': "satellite, fireworks etc", then again maby your eyes and mind were playing with you, whereas you have seen lights, but because you started concentrating on what it is, your brain automatically told you its strange lights going in all sorts of directions. The mind is a power full, thing, but dont worry, it happens to everyone.

The martians are beginning their invasion! We must prepare by drinking orange juice and rambling about Harry Potter turning muggles into fish!

If it was in the morning, you probably saw Mercury, Jupiter and Mars. They are low in the sky and in a triangle right now.
