Jack Kevorkian to Be Paroled in June
He Promises Not to Assist Any More Suicides

LANSING, Mich. (Dec. 13) - After more than eight years behind bars for murder, an ailing Dr. Jack Kevorkian will be paroled in June on a promise not to help anyone else commit suicide, prison officials said Wednesday.
Over the summer, Kevorkian's lawyer said that Kevorkian was suffering from hepatitis C and diabetes, that his weight had dropped to 113 pounds and that he had less than a year to live. Last Thursday, Kevorkian promised the parole board he would not take part in another suicide if released.
Should Dr. Jack Kavorkian ever had been sent to jail in the first place?
Was Dr. Kavorkian a victim or our values/system or was Dr. Kavorkian's inprisonment legitimate?
Kevorkian, who claimed to have assisted in at least 130 suicides in the 1990s, called it a mercy killing. He was sent to prison in 1999. He was credited with a year and nine months for good behavior.

He'll be back in business by July.
His imprisonment was legitimate, he broke the law on numerous occasions.
Until there comes a time that assisting a person in suicide is not a criminal offense then I am sorry, he should not be considered a victim. I am sure he doesn't consider himself a victim.

He only did what these people desired. If you are ever in the physical and mental pain any of his patients were in you would pray for someone to kill you to. I can't judge whether he was right or wrong only form my own opinion. I believe he did break the law as it is written and must pay some penalty for that however he should definately be set free. He is more of an angel than a devil.

Up to a year ago i would not have agreed to the killings.....but now for 2 years i have been the caregiver for my 93 now 95 year old mother who is ready to die......a yr ago she became bed ridden.....she prays every day for GOD to take her....mainly not to be a burden on me......she has led a wonderful life and is ready to go to sleep and never wake up.....they have D.N.R. letters that people have the right to sign so why not make mercy killing up to the patience why they are in sound mind and not leave it up to the immediate family to decide. I know if i am ever in the situation that my mom is right now i will feel the same.....I would not want to be a burden to my sons .....and also we cant afford insurance so my husband is one of the unfortunate ones who is not ins. BC-BS wanted 307.00 a month to ins him. So legalize it and let Americans make their own life choices....

As a nurse, i've seen my patients and their family anguished and painfully suffering before they die.But as a nurse and human being; I believe that the patient should be kept as comfortable as possible.including medications to keep. them comfortable.
However I don't know the circumstnces of these patients or how ill they were.It is my opinon that nurse should provide comfort and care but no one except God should determine how or when a person dies.
Some people think that if a terminal patient decides to committ suicide and able to carry it out unassisted thats one thing but someone choosing/or carrying out that is WRONG!We are mere mortals those decesions are to be determined by God.

I don't think Dr. Kavorkian should have been sent to prison to begin with. His aim was to help alleviate pain for patients who were dying and asked him to assist them in crossing over the big divide.

My faith tells me that the decision of life and death are in God's hands. BUT, I'm not lying their suffering, in pain and longing for the peace of death. It's easy to sit while your comfortable and throw judgements on others, it's much harder when YOU become the person with the terminal illness. I hope and pray that I will never have to make that decision and if I do, I will make the one with God in mind.

He shouldn't have been in prison in the first place, assisted suicide should be legalized in the US as it already is in several other countries. It's not murder, and those who believe it is against their religion don't have to do it for themselves. I'm glad he's getting out and sad to hear his own health is so bad. :-(

Why do we allow our animals (pets) to die a painless, dignified death...and yet humans must suffer. He is an angel of mercy and I admire him for it. The people he helped were VERY sick...most of them terminal cancer/AIDS patients. I'd rather go in peace w/ my family and friends around me, if I was suffering like they were. God bless 'em.
FYI. Voluntary Euthanasia is legal in Switzerland, not prosecuted in the Netherlands...and several other countries such as Australia are considering legalizing it.
