at the bottom corner of the status bar it says 'javascript'...what's goin on? How can I fix that? It's never done that before.

You may have javascript disabled. In IE, go to security on the internet options menu and set the slider to medium high, and click reset all zones to default level. Or you can click the custom level button and make sure "Active scripting" is enabled. In Firefox, there's an "enable javascript" option on the content tab of the options menu.
