Omar Vizquel will be in the hall of fame, maybe not first ballot, but he will make it

1.) He is the 2nd best defensive shortstop the game has ever seen (2nd all time in Gold Gloves, highest Fielding Percentage by an infielder with over 1000 games played)
2.) He is top 5 all time in stolen bases
3.) He is a career .275 hitter, which is not that bad considering up until this 'golden age' of shortstops was a very good average for a short stop.
4.) He's a switch hitter which is much harder than hitting from one side of the plate.

Lets also remember, the golden age of short stops started during the 2nd half of his career, so his first half was not completely overshadowed.

Yes. He is one of the best defensive shortstops of all time, and a good hitter as well. Sure, he doesn't have a lot of power but there are other aspects to the game (as much as some people hate to admit). He gets on base consistently, makes good contact, never throws away an atbat, and even his outs usually advance any runners that are on base. Combine all that with his defense. How many runs per season does he save by preventing someone from reaching base, or at least knocking down a sure-fire double and allowing the hitter only to get an infield single instead?

He is a better hitter than Ozzie Smith and almost as good with the glove. And if Ozzie is there than Vizquel should also go in.

In any other era, Vizquel would have been a sure thing for HOF. Your talking about a guy with 11 Gold Gloves (second only to Ozzie Smith) and 5th among active players in stolen bases with 366. His career is comparable to two other shortstop legends, Ozzie Smith and Luis Aparicio; both in the HOF.

Unfortunately, he played in what many would consider the golden age of shortstops with exceptional hitters like A-rod, Garciaparra, Jeter, and Tejada. For that reason, Vizquel cannot be considered the best of the best among his peers and has a good chance and probably will miss the HOF. At best, he will keep his name on the ballot long enough to make it in after voters contemplate his case after several years.

Seeing as Ozzie Smith is a hall of famer strictly on protecting understanding i might could desire to a hundred% say Omar Vizquel gets into the hall of popularity. Will he a be a commonplace time pollwinner, possibly not. mutually as he has a greater effective Fielding PCT than Ozzie Smith, Ozzie grew to become into an icon for the sport in the time of his taking part in time, Vizquel isn't and ought to result while he gets into the hall yet he is going in there.

Highly unlikely. I've never heard "Hall of Fame" and "Vizquel" in the same sentance until this question. He's a decent player, a fine fielder, but not a Hall of Famer. At least in my opinion. :-)

No. He definetly will get a decent amount of votes. But I don't think he's THAT great to be in the Hall of Fame. Plus I don't think the fans like him as much as to vote him into the hall of fame.

No. He will receive some votes, but he will never get enough. I don't even know if he will get enough to keep his name on the ballot. He had a great glove, but was a career .270 hitter and didn't really achieve any milestones while playing. Just your average every day get the job done guy.

He should be in. He is one of the greatest defensive shortstops of all time next to O. Smith, but not a great hitter. So that may keep him out, but if it were up to me, he would be in!!!!!!!!
