The main advantage is the avoidance of income tax, people seldom think about it, but if you add up all the taxes you pay it totals well over 75-80% --- income taxes, sales tax, manufacturers tax, resource tax, property tax, estate tax, gains tax, luxury tax, gas tax, inflation, quotas, tariffs....etc. Operating within the underground economy stretches your dollars further, by allowing you to keep that which would have otherwise gone to income tax, it cannot however help you to avoid the others; as they are added to a products cost prior to you even purchasing it.
