A song is a combination of words, rhythms and music. This is why the words have a different name.
But poems are the combination of words. So the words of a poem collectively called the POEM.

Poetry?!
I don't really know how the musicrits differentiate, but Dylan and Morrison have often been called POETS.
On the other hand, David Bowie and Kurt Cobain were considered lyricists, and in a complementary way.
Maybe lyrics beome poetry if they don't have any musical arrangement behind them.....very intersting question.

they are noted as lyrics. initially, poems have been study out loud to the generic public and have been often observed by employing a lyre (stringed device). song lyrics are somewhat no longer something extra beneficial than poems set to music.

I think they would be called "Sonnets" wouldn't they. I can't remember if a sonnet is the whole poem or each line of a poem. this is my best guess. lonalea2003
