Not all the time. Everybody is basically alike in that most of us have the same emotional, mental, and psychological characteristics, but specifically unique in that we have different abilities and backgrounds. Stephen Covey says to “seek first to understand, then to be understood.”
“Covey warns that giving out advice before having empathetically understood a person and their situation will likely result in that advice being rejected. Thoroughly listening to another person's concerns instead of reading out your own autobiography is purported to increase the chance of establishing a working communication.”
That’s the best way to find common ground.

It is as easy as looking in the mirror and knowing who you are; it is as easy as looking down at the ground that you are standing on, the chair you are sitting in, the bed you are laying on, as easy as saying what the heck is this guy talking about, as easy as reading what I am writing.

it really depends on what it is..i think it is easy for most things, but for other things, like politics, religion, beliefs, it's very hard to find common ground. probably has to do with how you were raised or what your beliefs are...

Yes. Common ground should make itself pretty obvious. If you find yourself looking for it, then perhaps there isn't any. :)
